Civil Service Commission has warned civil servant who run for public office without resigning from their post at civil service will be terminated.
CSC noted in a circular it issued this Tuesday that Article 51 of the Civil Service Act states a civil servant who contests at a public election defined by the Maldivian Constitution must resign from his/her post six months prior to the election.
The commission warned that the law calls for civil servants who run for public office without resigning to be terminated from their post.
The CSC said it has received reports multiple civil servants have expressed interest in running for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
“In reference to Article 203 of the Civil Service Regulation 2014, we instruct those who plan on running for the parliamentary elections to resign from his/her post and warn those who run for the elections without resigning will be terminated from his/her post,” reads the circular.
Elections Commission has announced the Parliamentary Elections 2019 will be held on March 22.
