Six people have been arrested in relation to the theft from the Gaafu Alifu Vilingili branch of the Bank of Maldives.
Maldives Police Service said that a large sum of money was stolen from the bank by the thieves who got in after breaking through the room.
The arrests were made in a police operation with Police Intelligence and the a large portion of the money was recovered as well. However, the total amount of money involved in the case in unclear at this time.
The BML theft was reported around 5:30 a.m. last night.
Bank Services has been put on hold on the island due to the theft and services will resume after the police completes their on scene procedures.
