Divers dispatched to assist STO cargo boat

A team of Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) divers have been dispatched to assist the State Trading Organization (STO) cargo boat Bonthi 2.

Information officer at MNDF, Ibrahim Azim reports the boat is currently stranded 188 nautical miles outside H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi after a rope got tangled in the boat’s propeller.

The boat was on its way back from India when the incident took place.

Azim says the incident was reported to the MNDF at 2:10 pm last Tuesday, and that the team of divers was dispatched to the location of the boat at 10:18 pm on Tuesday.

The team arrived at the location of the boat at 9:10 this Wednesday morning and is currently assisting the boat, says Azim.

The team of divers travelled on an MTCC speed boat arranged for by the owner of Bonthi 2.
