Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, the running mate of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom who conceded defeat in the recent presidential elections, says he chose to stay silent in the days following the election to make room for peace in Maldives.

Shaheem, the Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), wrote on his Facebook page this Sunday that he will resume religious and political work in mid-November.

“I haven’t resigned from this field. In Sha Allah, I will dedicate my time to Islamic preaching and politics in mid-November,” wrote Shaheem.

Shaheem said he remained unfazed by the election defeat, and asked for well wishes and prayers from the people.

Shaheem has been noticeably absent from the political scene since Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s election defeat.
