Deputy Speaker of People’s Majlis, Moosa Manik says the Speaker Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed lied to him and told him he would resign.
Speaking during the Majlis sitting this Wednesday afternoon, Moosa said Maseeh called him and told him he would hand in his resignation by 6 pm last Tuesday.
“Maseeh lied to me and told me he would resign,” said Moosa.
Moosa, who has been presiding over Majlis sittings ever since a no-confidence motion was filed against Maseeh, said he was holding the sittings as per Maseeh’s instructions, but that he was facing difficulties from Maseeh.
The no-confidence motion against Maseeh accused him of obstructing lawmakers from fulfilling their legal obligations
Moosa said he was aware of gossip about him for presiding over Majlis sittings in Maseeh’s stead. And that it was a “planned” attack.
Lawmakers are scheduled to take the no-confidence vote against Maseeh on November 8.
Lawmakers unsuccessfully submitted no-confidence motions against Maseeh two times in the past. The first attempt failed after a roll call vote, and the second time – ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) lawmakers who signed the motion were dismissed from the party.
