Summer Island Maldives resort has initiated an innovative coral growing project in their lagoon.
The project in Summer Island Maldives, operated by one of the most experienced resort operators in the country, Kaimoo Travels and Hotel Services, in Kaafu atoll, is focused on using 3D printed famework to aid coral growth.
Summer Island Maldives said that it is a collaborative project from the Reef Design Lab, Australia, and Diverland Maldives to aid coral growth around the resort.
Due to the climate changes and the temperature of the oceans, the new and innovative project is designed to protect coral reefs.
Reef Design Lab has developed a framework based on the corals found in the Maldives and with the help of a large 3D printer, the frames have been printed and are being installed around the Summer Island Maldives resort.
The resort said that the new reef would at around the jetty area of the island and the corals at the resort's coral nursery would be placed in the 3D printed frames as they grow.
