Ibu and Faisal launch joint campaign at Addu City

Opposition’s presidential candidate, Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) and Kaashidhoo MP Faisal Naseem – who was elected as Ibu’s running mate by Jumhoory Party (JP) last Friday night – has launched a joint campaign at Addu City.

Faisal beat Kendhoo MP Ali Hussain by just one vote during the anonymous poll taken by JP’s Council last Friday night to select a running mate for Ibu.

Opposition political parties: Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), JP and Adhaalath Party (AP) have pledged to work together for the upcoming Presidential Election.

Ibu, who is the leader of MDP’s parliamentary group launched his presidential campaign at Addu City last Friday. He was joined by his new running mate, Faisal, this Saturday morning.

MP Ali Hussain, who lost to Faisal by the slimmest of margins, has also travelled to Addu City to join the opposition’s campaign.

They are scheduled to travel to Fuvahmulah City next.

As Ibu and Faisal target the southern atolls, some of the opposition politicians continue to run door-to-door campaigns at Male’ City.

The ruling party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is also running door-to-door campaign activities in Male’ City.

Incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has announced he will be running for re-election on behalf of PPM. Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, the Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives, has been elected as his running mate.
