Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) Travel Awards 2018: People’s Edition has been launched in a special function at the One & Only Reethi Rah.
The MATATO Travel Awards 2018: People’s Edition, which honors individuals for their services to the travel and tourism industry, was launched by President of MATATO, Abdulla Giyaas last Wednesday evening.
People’s Edition was first introduced as a component of the MATATO Travel Awards in 2017.
10 people were awarded for their services to the travel and tourism industry at the MATATO Travel Awards 2017: People’s Edition.
MATATO reports five people will receive the award this year. The award-winners will be chosen by a panel made up of experts in various sectors of the tourism industry.
Speaking to press after the launch of MATATO Travel Awards 2018: People’s Edition, Giyaas provided assurance of MATATO’s contribution to anything related to the tourism industry of Maldives.
He said the purpose of the People’s Edition is to honor and celebrate the contribution of people to the tourism industry of Maldives.
MATATO also signed a Memorandum for Understanding for sustainable development with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) during the launching ceremony.
The MoU was signed by UNDP’s Permanent Representative to Maldives, Shoko Noda and Giyaas.
