Five Councilors of the Haa Alifu atoll Ihavandhoo Island Council has been suspended with the allegation of obstructing employees of the Housing Ministry who were working in an official capacity.
The Minister of Home Affairs and the President of the Local Government Authority (LGA), Ahmed Azleen, has confirmed the suspension to Sun Media.
The Councilors were suspended without pay.
Obstructing state employees working in an official capacity is a criminal offence under the Penal Code.
This is the second suspension of Ihavandhoo Council members without pay and allowances. They have been previously suspended for three months.
