The foundation has been laid for the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Male’ Area Hulhule’ Post, to be built on the new land for the military at Velana International Airport.

The foundation for the new base was laid by Minister of Defense and National Security, Adam Shareef Umar and Chief of Defense Force, Major-General Ahmed Shiyam and MNDF’s general officers in a function held last Saturday afternoon.

MNDF’s media officer reported to “Sun” that the MNDF headquarters will be moved to new land, so it is in the area where the new runway is being built. He said it is part of the overall VIA Development Project.

Speaking at Saturday’s function, the Chief of Defense Force, Major-General Ahmed Shiyam said the military will not hesitate to take action, the moment any issue affecting the nation reaches the MNDF.

“Whether it is a natural disaster, a foreign or domestic takeover, the Maldivian military will confront anything which affects the nation,” said Shiyam.
