One of the founding members of the Siyam-Mauroof Soccer Cup, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has said that they are thinking of expanding the tournament nation-wide.
Speaking after the final match of the Siyam-Mauroof Soccer Cup, Siyam said that even if the tournament is being held in the Noonu atoll so far, the tournament would be open to the whole country in the future and increase the prize money for the champion team.
As the tournament grows to host the entire country, the current prize money of MVR 150,000 would be increased to MVR 500,000 according to Siyam.
Siyam, also the Leader of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), said that football brings joy to the people and if used properly, it would benefit children’s discipline and health.
After the final match, the MP for Kendhikulhudhoo constituency, Ali Mauroof said that the people of Noonu atoll are showing happiness and tranquility at the end of a 30-day tournament.
The MP said that the youth of the atoll is very happy today and he is working to bring similar joy to the entire nation.
He said that today’s government is working to make sure every young man is living his youth to the fullest and try to build their future.
The Champion team of the Siyam-Mauroof Soccer Cup is Holhudhoo football team who won 1-0 against Kendhikulhudhoo.
The Special Guest at the final match was the former Captain of FC Barcelona, Carles Puyol.
