Woodburn eclipses Owen to become Liverpool's youngest scorer

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Teenager Ben Woodburn became Liverpool's youngest-ever scorer as his team beat second-tier club Leeds 2-0 on Tuesday to reach the semifinals of the English League Cup.

At 17 years and 45 days, the academy graduate beat Michael Owen's record by 98 days with an 81st-minute finish at Anfield in front of the Kop.

Divock Origi scored five minutes earlier as Liverpool reached the semifinals of English soccer's second-tier cup competition for the fourth time in the last six years. The Reds lost the final to Manchester City last season and won the trophy in 2012.

Hull also reached the semifinals for the first time by beating Newcastle 3-1 on penalties despite having Dieumerci Mbokani sent off in the 89th minute of a game which ended 1-1 after extra time.

The semifinal lineup will be completed on Wednesday when Arsenal hosts Southampton and Manchester United plays West Ham.
