AC Milan hopeful of moving to new stadium by 2020

MILAN (AP) — AC Milan vice president Barbara Berlusconi is hopeful the Italian giant will have its own stadium by 2020.

Milan has played at San Siro since the stadium's inauguration in 1926 and has shared it with Inter Milan since 1947, when ownership switched from the club to the city.

Berlusconi said Friday that "the work on the stadium continues, the plastic model is almost ready. We are awaiting important answers from the bureaucracy in the first six months of 2015. The dream is to complete it by 2020."

The area of Milan the new stadium will be built in has not been chosen yet.

Berlusconi adds "there are no economic problems whatsoever: there are many companies interested in the project."

San Siro was recently confirmed as the venue for the 2016 Champions League final and there are ongoing renovation plans.
